Vista claims to be "offline" yet some networking features still work?
Hello there,I'm having a problem with Vista's Problem Reports and Solutions and also Media Player, with other potential problems not yet apparent to me. It seems that Vista thinks it is offline a lot of the time, as when I click on "check for solutions" in the Problem Reports and Solutions page a dialogue box tells me that "to view or check for solutions, you must be connected to the internet". It doesn't offer me a chance to connect.Oddly, I'm typing this now whilst online, yet I can click that button now and recieve the same error message. Occasionally, IE7 will pop up a box saying the system is offline and would I like to connect and then try again? I just click it and I'm away instantly. My network topology consists of several networked computers connecting to a small box which runs ICS and DHCP for the rest of the machines.I've noticed also that Media Player claims the system isn't connected when I click Online Stores in the tabs at the top. Right now though, it says no online stores are available in my location. Problem Reports and Solutions still produces the same error!I did try diagnostics from within the Network Center, but was told that there was an issue which Vista was unable to repair automatically. I went into "Manage Connections" and used the diagnostic features there for my LAN connection, and it said there were no issues. When I tell it to reset the network adapter Problem Reports and Solutions will begin working though. This has to be done every time I need to send off error reports, and up until a few days ago I had amassed 4GB of pending error data. Is this fixable or do I just wait for the new build 5456 to become public?

Thanks, unfortunately Automatic Updates already installed this and it doesn't seem to have made a difference! When I started up the computer today it did check for problems and solutions without producing the error message, however. I shall try again later and see if this is still the case.

I am seeing the same problem that the other user reported. My network topology is this: 1) Windows 2003 SP1 Server as a domain controller (Active Directory) 2) Vista RC1 client experiencing "intermitent" offline dialogs even though the network connection is good. this machine also has the classic desktop settings turned (makes it look like windows 2000). Member of domain. 3) Vista RC1 client NOT experiencing these issues. Default install settings. Member of domain. I have reset the internet explorer settings and even disabled the power saving features of the network card and nothing has fixed this issue. Another point of interest is that my domain server also acts as the local DNS server. It is setup to forward resolved DNS requests to our home router so they can be resolved by our ISP.

I have heard this is a problem if you are behind certain routers that don't support some of the new networking settings in Vista. The following works for me. Right click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator. Type netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled then press enter. Type netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled then Press enter. Reboot. This got rid of the messages that I'm offline and the choppiness when streaming radio stations. If you run any of Vista's Networking diagnostics, these settings get enabled again and the old problems start popping up. Microsoft and the router companies need to figure out something.

Hopefully this might help someone. I have had this problem for a few weeks and have been using the above solution - however, the problem returns every day or so. So I right clicked on the Network icon in the task tray and selected diagnose and repair. I got a message about wanting to turn on TCP Preformance settings - so I said yes. This so far seems to have cleared up the problem. I was having issues with mp3's streaming as well, and that seems to be sorted too. cheers.

I am frequently kicked out of the network (a Vista Ultimate DELL laptop). When I use the network diagnostics tool I see a message Reset the network adapter "Local Area Connection" (I don't know whyl,a and c" are upper case). My problem is not with using the upper case though ;-) Any help is highly appreciated. Regards, Venkat.
